If you’re an avid traveller, chances are you’re looking at your next getaway. But where next? If you’re in need of some travel advice, these five destinations are the ones to visit in 2018.

   1. Bogotá, Colombia

Despite being laden with crime in past years and gaining a less than desirable reputation as a result, as echoed by the Secret Traveller, Colombia has risen from the metaphorical ashes to become one of the most exciting, vibrant countries to visit. Situated at the very northern tip of South America, Colombia is renowned for its lush rainforests, alluring cities and the towering Andes mountains.

For an energetic and spirited getaway, Bogotá could be that haven you never even considered.

   2. New Orleans, USA

It’s the city’s 300th anniversary this year, so there’s no better time to visit New Orleans than in 2018. The Tricentennial events are happening throughout the year, with highlights being the Tall Ships ceremony as well as this month’s Mardi Gras which, despite being a raucous, spirited celebration each and every year, managed to do it bigger and better than ever before.

Elsewhere, be sure to visit the French Quarter, often said to be the heart and soul of the city, as well as Bourbon Street where you can lose yourself in the loud bars and clubs that line the road. One of the best things New Orleans does is combine its profound cultural heritage with a damn good time.
