Recipe for a Kitchen that’s Gorgeous and Functional

When it comes to interior design, the kitchen is the heart of the home. This is where subtle differences in the decor can have the largest impact, mainly due to the wide range of options we have for customizing them. If you’re renovating, here are some of my best tips on the latest kitchen designs, for getting a kitchen that’s both functional and gorgeous.

Design the Kitchen Layout

Once you get the layout for the kitchen right, everything else falls into place fairly easily. You’ve got a lot of wiggling room when it comes to the layout of the kitchen, however, there are certain rules of thumb you should try to stick to. What designers callthe work triangleis one important consideration. This is the distance between the refrigerator, the sink, and the oven, and should be kept as small as possible. Another good rule to follow when you design the kitchen layout is keeping the refrigerator close to the entrance. After all, this is usually your final destination!

Latest Kitchen Designs – Budget friendly!

Your budget may be looking pretty stretched, especially now that you’re starting to figure out how much a full kitchen renovation actually costs. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t create a kitchen that looks and feels amazing! The secret is spending a bigger proportion of your budget on the things that have the most visual impact. Instead of splurging on a silver-plated knife block, save for larger features, like custom backsplashes and marble granite countertops. These larger, more visually potent features are where you can inject more of your personality into the latest kitchen designs, so make sure you leave yourself enough!

Let There be Light

You may not have noticed it before, but people are much more inclined to look up at the light fixtures in a kitchen than any other room in a house. Due to this, I recommend shopping around for lighting and choosing the best fixtures you can over the central island, breakfast nook table, and the sink. Try to embellish one small area, and have the surrounding lights slightly understated in comparison. One part of your kitchen should be the star of the show, whereas the others should have supporting roles.

Make Height a Priority

The cabinets in your kitchen are going to be one of the biggest factors in how it looks and feels, and the height of those cabinets is going to be a huge factor in how they look and feel. Unless you’re having to work with hobbit-sized rooms, go with 42-inch models over the usual 36-inchers. You’ll not only get another six inches’ worth of kitchen storage space but will help to make the whole room appear taller and airier. If you’ve got a particularly tall ceiling, then using stacked upper cabinets will create even more space, and make the room feel even grander.

Keep these tips in mind when you’re planning to design the kitchen layout, and by the end of it, you’ll have a space you can really be proud of!
