Although the list is much longer, I have selected the most surprising facts about the health benefits of turmeric powder. As you read on, please keep in mind that one of the most powerful advantages turmeric curcumin supplements have over the traditional medical approach is the lack of side effects.  From teas and juices to capsule supplements, turmeric curcumin is popping up everywhere today. Allergy sufferer should always be careful with trying new supplements!

Dr Greg Cole (associate director of  UCLA’s Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research) has spent many years studying curcumin as a treatment for brain diseases.Cole says Alzheimer’s is associated with the build-up of plaques in the brain, and turmeric curcumin seems to reduce these plaques. In India, where turmeric is a main ingredient of the national cuisine, Alzheimer’s appears to be less common than in other countries, Cole says. Genetics and other lifestyle factors make it tough to credit turmeric curcumin exclusively.

The evidence is promising. Could turmeric curcumin really become the better med? Let’s have a look at the most surprising facts I have found:

  1. Inflammatory Response Process

Diseases nowadays such as cancer, arthritis, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis and chronic pain can be the result of inflammation.Turmeric helps the body in fighting foreign invaders and in repairing damages. It turned out that turmeric curcumin supplements are highly anti-inflammatory, it is so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some common anti-inflammatory drugs.

  2. Joint And Muscle Pain Relief

One of the acknowledged properties of turmeric curcumin in scientific communities is its ability to manage pain.Turmeric curcumin supplements are right on top of my list of home remedies, particularly when it comes to helping reduce joint pain and stiffness that comes with arthritis.

I have been through an odyssey of painkillers during the last 3 years myself. If they have ever eased my pain – the side effects of all these pills were awful. And not just the physical side effects, can you imagine how your personality and attitude towards life changes under the influence of all these drugs? The day I did not recognise myself anymore was the last day I took any of these killer pills and started researching on ‘ The Better Med ‘ for myself. And so I became a great believer in turmeric curcumin supplements.

  3. Mood Boost Supplement

Dozens of researchers have proven that turmeric curcumin is strongly effective in correcting depression symptoms in laboratory animals. Phytotherapy Research published the results of an amazing, innovative study this past year. The study took 60 volunteers diagnosed with depressive disorder, such as manic depression, and split the group to find out how patients treated with turmeric curcumin fared against Prozac and a combination of the two. Not only that all patients tolerated turmeric curcumin well, but they discovered as well that turmeric was as effective as Prozac in managing depression.

  4. Prevent Blood Clots Naturally

Medical treatment generally includes various drugs, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and others to slow and prevent blood clotting. Unfortunately, this approach may not always be the wisest decision. Ibuprofen overdose is one such common problem. In addition to side effects like excessive bleeding and haemorrhage, the risks associated with anticoagulants include everything from back pain to headaches to breathing difficulties.
Turmeric curcumin has relatively no known side effects unless taken in extremely excessive amounts, and has been suggested by researchers as actually being a better option for people with vascular thrombosis.

  5. Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Management

Because turmeric curcumin is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reducing characteristics, a study was conducted on 45 rheumatoid arthritis patients in order to compare the benefits of turmeric curcumin to arthritis drugs, that put people at risk of developing heart diseases.

The researchers made up 3 groups: Volunteers with curcumin treatment only –  diclofenac sodium only –  and a combination of these two. The results of the study were striking!

The curcumin group showed the highest percentage of improvement in overall [Disease Activity Score] scores and these scores were significantly better than the patients in the diclofenac sodium group. More importantly, curcumin treatment was found to be safe and did not relate with any adverse events. Our study provides the first evidence for the safety and superiority of curcumin treatment in patients with active RA and highlights the need for future large-scale trials to validate these findings in patients with RA and other arthritic conditions Phytotherapy Research

  6. Lower Cholesterol Levels

One of the reasons heart disease is such a problem is that people are developing pre-diabetes (excessive blood sugar) at an alarming rate. Diabetes damages the inside of our blood vessels. Because of this damage to the arteries, cholesterol begins to build up to patch up the damaged areas, which leads to high levels of LDL cholesterol.
Statin drugs (Cholesterol treatment)are widely known to harm the kidneys and liver and cause a number of even possibly deadly side effects. Yes, they do bring the cholesterol level down but never do they get to the actual cause of the problem, the excessive blood sugar level. A study found that turmeric curcumin was equal or even more effective than diabetes medications at reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in the treatment of high cholesterol.

Studies have shown that curcumin in turmeric is 400 times more potent than Metformin (a common diabetes drug) in activating AMPK which improves insulin sensitivity.  In addition to correcting the causes of diabetes, curcumin has also been proven to reverse many of the problems related to insulin resistance.

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about turmeric. I remember one time mistakenly getting turmeric instead of ginger in the grocery. I had no idea how to use turmeric then though so it kind of went to waste. I regret that now.
